Before I forget, the expanded summary that I managed to miss:

As a child Sakura Mamiya mysteriously disappeared in the woods behind her grandma’s home. She returned whole and healthy, but since then she has had the power to see ghosts. Now a teenager, she just wishes the ghosts would leave her alone! At school, the desk next to Sakura’s has been empty since the start of the school year, then one day her always-absent classmate shows up, and he’s far more than what he seems!

NOW, IF YOU WANT TO BE SLIGHTLY SPOILED, READ ON TO SEE THE IMAGES!

I stumbled upon 4 delicious images from this week’s premiere. Thank you 2ch.net. (Click for full size.) Also, Patches and others on 2ch have remarked that the boy’s surname is Rokudou and that he is kind of like a shinigami.

RT really needs to improve her drawing style!  The girl looks like Kagome and the boy, puting aside the red hair, looks like a modern human version of InuYasha. But then again,Kagome also looks like Kyoko (Maison Ikkoku) and Sakura (Urusei Yatsura),Kikyo resembles Manna (Mermaid Forest ) and Ranma looka like the human InuYasha.  Well,I can’t wait to see it translated ! :) )

Well I guess after drawing the same characters for years non-stop, it would probably take a moment to get their style  out of your system < : /

Inuyasha cut and dyed his hair! Kagome changed her hairstyle finally! xD

I am anxious for the history and for the characters who must appear in the course of chapters. It is possible to deduct what will be a supernatural saga.

Sakura does not remember me a lot of Kagome. The boy is really similar with Inuyasha. His facial expressions are exactly the same, inclusive in the glance.

And shinigami is a tendency that grows more and more.

PS: Rokudou means six posthumous worlds. Clear Buddhist influence.

Thanks, Starks!  This story has more potential for me to look into than the one-shot involving those birds.

As a side note, I wish Takahashi would improve upon her style.  My brain is still set to Inuyasha mode.  Whenever I see a female protagonist, I automatically think I’m reading Inuyasha.  Having nearly every one of her characters look identical doesn’t help either (Kagome=Kyoko, Inuyasha=Ranma).

Thanks for the scans, Starks!

That red hair is going to take a bit of getting used to but other than that I like the character designs, even if I can’t help noticing the facial resemblence to her previous two leads (then again, RT’s far from the only mangaka to have a lot of similar-looking characters). Considering how much Rumiko’s art has changed over the course of most of her longer series, I wouldn’t be surprised if the protagonists look quite different by the time Kyoukai no Rinne reaches it’s conclusion (though I agree that I’d really prefer it if this one doesn’t end up being as long as Inuyasha). Try comparing Inuyasha in volume 1 to Inuyasha in volume 56, for example.

I think the “chihuahua” might be a kitsune, although considering the weirdness of some of RT’s previous works, I wouldn’t be that surprised if it was a giant chihuahua. XD

Kirin: you think the same like  me! If you at all, try comparin Inuyasha in volume 1 and then you see in the last one(56), obviously that Inu in the first tankouboun should be similar with ranma, but in the finale, InuYasha has a special face, and we don’t think in Ranma’s face, when we see or read it.

It’s normal that Rokudo is very simmilar at Inuyasha’s face. But in a few tankoubouns, Rokudo will be very different, and the same with sakura.
In fact Sakura has a younger face than Kagome ,doesn’t she?

Like the costum, Rumiko draw a weird clothes, that I really lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the last one thing: Rumiko is the perfect mangaka with her sign tipical: style of draw.
But for example, there are a lot of artist that steal other mangakas, for example: Kishimoto (Naruto) It was stolen of Dragon Ball by (Akira toriyasma(L)

I agree about the current facial similarities between these two new characters with those of Kagome and Inuyasha, but also agree that as the manga progresses, the two main roles will also change and evolve.  When I look at the latest Inuyasha drawings, he loooks much different than that of Ranma.  And did you check out Sesshoumaru in the first few chapters?  OMG he really looked like a girl.  :)

Being that I don’t know Japanese at all, can someone translate the title “Kyoukai no Rinne” for me?  I can’t wait to see more of this new series!

Thanks Starks and everyone else involved.

its something like “The reincarnation of Rinne”

Comment by Ranma SaotomeNo Gravatar

mapKyoukai means “boundary”. Rinne is “endless cycle of rebirth” and/or “transmigration of souls”, both buddhist precepts.
An adaptation would be something like ” The Frontier of the Reincarnation “, or “The Boundary of the Reincarnation”.
———————————————————————-
I like the Takahashi drawing style  and the fact of creating similar characters is not a defect. I bed that in April of the next year, Rokudou and Sakura will be different, with an own form, leaving backwards traces of similarity with Inuyasha characters.

It would not be surprised if Rinne was the name of the boy, Rokudou.

Gee, seeing as these 2 resemble IY and Kags, I wonder if there’ll be a character resembling Sesshou somehow….ya know like a hawter, moodier,  massively more smexxxxxxxier jackhole than he ever was????  That is, if its even possible.

I’m sure we’ll see Sango and Miroku in a few eps as well and maybe the girl will be the perv and the guy will be the hapless victim who secretly likes being groped…..I wonder what she will say?  Something like, “I suffer from amnesia. Did I grope you?

That chihuahua-animal looks just like my dog!

It’ll change (the art style).  Just take a look at the first issue of Inu-Yasha (with Kagome’s incredibly long legs) and compare it to what it became.

Personally, I still think her best art style was in the mid-80’s, with Maison Ikkoku, the early issues of Mermaid Saga, and many of her best Rumik World stories (Laughing Target, FireTripper), up through the beginnings of Ranma 1/2.  The latter parts of Ranma as well as Inu-Yasha always seemed too bland to me, and a number of her monster designs never sat well with me.  That latter part worries me the most with Rin-ne, as there is already one (what the hell is that, a chihuahua?) just in these few preview pages.

Heroine = Kagome.

Hero = Inuyasha.

Evil Floating Chihuahua of Doom = Sesshoumaru???

One can only hope. Either way, I am finally intrigued by this series.

Both Sakura and Rinne look good *nod*.
I’m not really bothered with the simularitie to the InuYasha characters. I mean, it could be alot worse (With some manga artists, I can’t even tell the difference between characters from different mangas).
Rumiko’s supernatural manga’s are always good, so I can’t wait to read this ^_^

I like the girl.
She reminds me of Kagome.
They have the same youthful face.
And I like the hairstyles.
Now I can imagine what Higurashi looks
like in pigtailed braids.
